Understanding Electrical Maintenance

The Electrical Maintenance Training is an internationally accepted world-class electrical training curriculum, developed around 8 key learning modules through 4 successive phases. The main objectives of the course are to prepare the learner to be aware of electrical safety considerations, learn to recognize electrical implications of different machine and equipment jobs, work safely with electrical schematics, use appropriate test equipment, repair machines, and control systems, use appropriate repair tools, and continued progress towards continuous improvement. The training covers all relevant areas of the electrical industry. In each module, there are practical exercises based on current electrical installations and servicing procedures. Throughout the entire duration of the course, students have to undergo thorough training regarding electrical safety as well as practical work experience.

The first stage of the course prepares the student to work with DC circuits. Students have to work on understanding the operation and installation of electrical services and devices under DC voltage and power supply. They have to identify the function of various components and comprehend the meaning of dc circuits. In this phase of the electrical maintenance training, students are also taught about electricity and its principles, its uses, how to work with different types of materials and how to read electrical schematics.

The second stage of the training deals with understanding the operational control of electric machines or appliances. Students have to know when and how to switch on and off appliances. Electrical maintenance includes knowing the difference between activating and deactivating an appliance, understanding the reason to switch them on or off and remembering to turn them on or off on a regular basis. It also trains the students to change their own servicing and maintenance schedule according to the specifications set by electrical system service organizations (ESOs). The course also ensures that the students understand what the objectives of any regular scheduled maintenance are and how to work towards achieving those objectives.

The third stage focuses on understanding AC circuits and their working. The student has to identify the working principle of these circuits and judge their efficiency. He has to measure, examine and test various components like fuse, wiring, fuses and solenoid. He also has to relate the characteristics of AC circuits to the different structures of electrical systems like distribution, load center, panel, breaker and fuse box. Finally, he has to fix and maintain the connection between the various appliances.

The fourth and final part of the training deals with troubleshooting of AC electrical equipment. The student has to isolate the problem and then fix it. He has to diagnose and rectify the problem and after fixing it, he continues to maintain the existing wiring. The electrical maintenance training also deals with the understanding of the various types of breakers and switches and the proper working of them in combination with each other.

The main focus of the training is to have a thorough understanding of AC electric motors and their working. He has to know about the different types of AC motors, the advantages and disadvantages of using them and what are the specific parts used in the AC motor. Electrical Maintenance includes two major sections, namely, the technical section and the practical section. In technical section, the trainee gets to learn about the different terms used in electrical maintenance and their meaning. On the other hand, in the practical section, the trainee is taught the basic troubleshooting techniques for various appliances like computers, dishwashers, hair dryers, vacuum cleaners and much more.
